Tips to Sleep Better

Most people do not get enough sleep. There are many who think they can catch up the sleep they lost, this is not true. The sleep you lose is lost forever. Many people also believe they are getting enough sleep when if fact they are not. According to experts six hours or less a night is not enough for you to maintain good mental and physical health. Getting enough of the proper kind of sleep is essential to your health and well being. More than seventy five percent of us are not getting enough sleep at night.
In America many people suffer from sleep disorders. It fact it is estimated that over eighty percent of the population of the US is affected by sleep deprivation. The vicious cycle of stress may be the main culprit as stress causes a person not to sleep well and not sleeping well leads to stress. You may need help from a professional in order to break this cycle. There are many options available for persons suffering from sleeping problems.
Tips for getting a good nights sleep:
Most people function better on a set schedule so get into a routine. If you stick with it your body will tell you when its time to sleep. Do not eat too soon before bedtime. The general rule is to not eat anything within two hours before going to bed. It can cause indigestion to eat and lie down too soon and this will keep you awake. Reading is a very good tool to relax you and make you sleepy. Get in your favorite chair with a good book and you will be sleepy in no time. Do not over stimulate yourself before bedtime. It is good to avoid television and the internet as these two things have a tendency to cause excitement.
Create a peaceful bedroom. Do not use your bedroom for watching television. If you have a TV in there, move it out. Keep your work out of the bedroom; keep it in the office or living room. Make it comfortable for sleeping. Some people sleep better with a cool or cold bedroom, this makes it possible to snuggle up in blankets making it easier to sleep. A fan is good to use for background noise, most people sleep better this way. Make the bedroom dark, if you need a little light to see by use a dim light or night light that will not be shining in your face. Do what ever you need to make your bedroom a peaceful, quiet place to sleep.
Eat good nutritious healthy foods; it will help you sleep better. Do not eat heavy meals at night; your body needs time to digest the food. You don’t want to wake up with acid indigestion in the middle of the night. Avoid caffeinated drinks in the evening; they are stimulants and will keep you awake.
Get rid of stress it is one of the main problems when it comes to sleeping disorders. Don’t take your fights to the bedroom; get it over with before bedtime. Do not use it as a debate center or bargaining ground; get all this over with before going to bed. Practice positive thinking and relaxation techniques to do before bedtime to pave the way to a more peaceful sleep.
There is often a simple solution for many sleeping problems. Once you learn how important sleep is in your life and take steps to improve it you will be able to enjoy a happier and healthier life.
Follow these tips to start getting a good nights sleep and you will discover how much better you feel in the morning. You will be blessed with much more energy throughout the day.
